Training Set
Training Set consists of a sculptural installation and digital images that imagine a dataset for the body. Resembling placentas, organs, and speculative anatomical fragments, the works occupy the unstable territory between biological growth and computational generation. Machine learning was used to generate and evolve the forms, which were then translated into physical sculpture through an extended process of editing, modeling, and fabrication. The title refers both to the technical dataset used to train AI systems and to the cultural process through which ideas about reproduction, care, and bodily autonomy are continually rehearsed and reinforced. As part of Surrogate, the work considers how reproductive technologies and AI increasingly rely on the same logic: reducing the complexity of human life into models that can be optimized, predicted, and controlled.
